Melanoma Checks in Gilles Plains

A yearly health assessment for patients aged 75 and older. Our healthcare personnel will conduct an extensive examination of your medical condition, physical and psychological and social ability. This is to help identify health risks and advice on how to improve overall well-being.

Melanoma Checks and Assessment

2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, but early detection and appropriate sun protection, the risks can be reduced. Cancer Council suggests seeing a GP for a skin check if you notice any changes or new spots or moles or even organising regular 6 month or yearly checks for those who are high risk.

Gilles Plains Medical Centre can provide GP melanoma screenings for our patients.

To help prevent skin cancer it is encouraged to remember to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide: Wearing protective clothing, sunglasses, a broad rim hat, applying SPF 50 sunscreen to all unprotected skin, and to use available shaded areas.

Immunisations - children and adults

Gilles Plains Medical Centre encourages children to be fully immunised according the South Australian Immunisation Schedule. Immunisations can be arranged through our nurse or your doctor. Please bring your Childs blue book with you to these visits.

We also encourage adult immunisations including influenza and shingles. Speak to your Doctor if you feel you may need a vaccination or are unsure if you may be at risk.

Iron Infusions

We are able to perform iron infusions within our practice.

The doctors will assess your iron status, and a script provided if iron infusion is required. Please ring us to book your iron infusion appointment.

Please be aware that the infusions incur a cost on top of the normal consultation fee.

Men’s Health

4 in 5 Australian men live with at least one heart-risk factor. The more risk-factors that a patient has, the more likely they are to develop cardiovascular disease. If you are 35 years +, you are eligible to get a Heart Health Check at Gilles Plains Medical Centre to determine if you are at risk of cardiovascular disease.

Diabetes screenings are recommended every 2 years for over 40s, and every 12 months if you are found to be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Our doctors and nurses can assist with the screening process.

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer for men in Australia. Men should undertake a PSA test for prostate cancer every 2 years between the ages of 50 to 69 years. For men who have family history of prostate cancer it is recommended to begin at age 40 or 45. Gilles Plains Medical Centre can provide PSA testing for patients.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 44 years in Australia. 1 in 8 men will experience depression, and 1 in 5 will experience anxiety.
